How ties are broken

1. Record, as a win percentage. A 1-2 team can never finish above a 2-1 team, however wide the margins. A tie counts half a win, and percentage rather than a win count means a washed-out game never costs a team its place.
2. Head to head, when exactly two teams are level. With three or more it is usually circular, so it does not apply.
3. Run differential, capped at 12 per game.
4. Runs scored, capped the same way.
5. Runs against, fewest first.
6. Coin flip. Seeded, so it produces the same answer every time it is recomputed.

Mercy rule: 12 after 3, 10 after 4, 8 after 5. A game that gets out of hand is stopped, which is what keeps a blowout from mattering. The 12 run cap only trims a full-length game that broke open late, so a mercy win keeps the margin it actually earned.
